Indonesia is a country with thousands of islands. That is why, Indonesia has various wonderful places to be visited. Some islands and archipelago offer historic sites and magnificent landscapes. They are Java, Sumatra and Sulawesi Island, also Nusa Tenggara and Maluku archipelago.
Java is the main island in Indonesia since the capital city is located here. It is Jakarta. This city holds much inheritance from Dutch and British colonial era. Many colonial style buildings are well-maintained in Jakarta, namely National Monument towers, the Central Museum, Portuguese Church, and many others. In central java, there are historic sites, dated from Hindu-Buddha era. Prambanan Temple is one of the largest Hindu temples in Southeast Asia. There is also Borobudur Temple, which is regarded as the largest Buddhist temple in the world. The beautiful natural scenery can be viewed from Mount Bromo and Semeru in East Java.
In Sumatra Island, there are many reserved forests to save the indigenous wildlife. There is the largest volcanic lake in the world; it is Lake Toba which offers fantastic view. The next destination is Sulawesi Island. It offers natural beauty, the famous diving spot, Bunaken, with its rich sea life. In Tana Toraja, there is a cultural site, which is well-known for their burial custom. Sulawesi Island also remains historic site, Fort Rotterdam, a fortress built in 17th century.
Nusa Tenggara archipelago has one of the highest volcanic mountains in Indonesia, Mount Rinjani with its thick forests, in Lombok Island. This island appears as the expansion of Bali. The south coast is rocky. Meanwhile in the west, it is shining with banana and coconut woods, also rice plants. Furthermore, there are some magnificent beaches, both white sand and black sand with colorful coral and tropical fish. In Komodo Island, there is the world’s largest species of lizard which is called Komodo. This species is almost extinct.
The last is Maluku archipelago. There are some historical sites. Ambon covers many Dutch fortresses from the 17th century and Morotai as the Japanese air base during the World War II. This archipelago also comprises many isolated islands which each of them has its own attractive culture.
