Skiing is one of the popular sports in the world. It is a sport of moving over snow by using skis. And nowadays, many resorts are developed in Northern Europe, especially for winter sports like skiing. Usually, a ski resort is developed in a hill or mountain area with supporting facilities such as skiing equipments, ski trails, ski lift systems, hotels, and restaurants. In one of European countries, Sweden, the ski resorts are located in Are, Salen, Branas, Abisko National Park, and many others. The ski resorts here take place in the Alps, high mountains in Europe. That is why the resorts also offer wonderful landscape which can be enjoyed while skiing. Even, Abisko National Park is regarded as one of the best places in the world.
The ski resort in Are is the largest and the most difficult in Northern Europe region. This ski area is about 350 kilometers wide and covers the Areskutan Mountain which has altitude about 1420 meters. This well known ski resort has been established for more than a hundred years. Are ski resort already hosted the Alpine World Ski Championships twice. In addition, Are ski resort is honored as the world’s top ski resort in 2009 by a British travel magazine. In this ski resort, skiing can be enjoyed by anyone since it offers many kinds of ski trails for the beginners and advanced skiers. Besides, there are also ski trails for children or young skiers.
Some people say that skiing is a kind of sport with high risks. It is not wrong. However, the ski areas as well the one in Sweden are always facilitated by some services such as first aid, guard or patrol and other safety equipments for the skiers. There are also some rules based on the resort’s policy that have to be obeyed by the skiers when they go skiing to protect themselves from injuries.
